The Ghost Toucher Gerald Rice 9780980799620 Books

Gerald Rice has crafted a fine tale-o-terror that delivers the scares with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

The Ghost Toucher is Men In Black for the paranormal world mixing an unlikely hero with a seasoned parapsychologist as the duo searches for the missing host of a popular ghost hunting show.

There are scares to be had and laughs abound as the story unwinds to a break-neck-speed finale that leaves the reader wanting more (Because he sets up the sequel immediately). Hopefully we wont have to wait long for Gerald's sure-to-please follow-up.

The Ghost Toucher Gerald Rice 9780980799620 Books Reviews

I bought the Ghost Toucher over here in the UK - I had read about it on forums - to be honest, the cover looked impressive.

The story actually has quite a lot to it but still moves along at a good pace. I won't include any spoilers here but you have to forget most of what you think you know about ghosts. Rice creates, I would say world, universe is a better description - things are very different which means you really feel like this unfolds as you read the novel. It helps keep it interesting and the reader gripped.

I actually read mine in 3 days flat and I don't have the copy any more - my wife has already started it. I suspect it's going to be that kind of book. You leave it on the table at work, someone will notice it, pick it up and it's gone.

So, if you like `ghost' stuff, you'll love it - also anyone interested in the psychic arena or just a good story.

Rice's writing style is very fluid, sometimes reminding of authors like Michel Crichton, who I love. Saying that, it would probably make a good TV series or film just like Crichton's stuff. There also some really clever little innovations in there, as I said, I won't spoil them for you!

I would definitely recommend this as a real page-turner and in my view a very original story.
The product description doesn't do this book justice. I might have passed it up based on the jacket synopsis, but Severed Press has a reputation for publishing some damn fine books, and the story takes place in Michigan where I live, so I decided to give it a chance. I expected a lot from Gerald Rice, and, for the most part, he didn't disappoint me.

I've only read a few other paranormal novels, and I make it no secret that zombies are my main preference, but The Ghost Toucher was much more than a paranormal story. Rice creates a very detailed setting, with a variety of characters -- everything from Gods to things-I-have-never-heard-of-EVER...it was a bit overwhelming at times, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. A lot of the characters show up without any setup, and the POV flips between them in the middle of action-packed sequences; there were a few times when I had to re-read a section because I would have trouble remembering who was who. The characters are unique, but there are several different factions at work, and it was a bit difficult to keep track of the players' motivations & plans.

Aside from the overhwleming cast, it was one hell of a thriller.

"The psychic business had taken a huge tumble now that anyone could communicate with the dead."

Stout Roost is the host of The Ghost Toucher, a reality show on The Network. After antagonizing an enraged ghost on camera, Roost disappears. The Network assigns the task of finding Roost to Kelly Greene and Israel. By the time you reach page 14, it's apparent that there is a much bigger story behind the disappearance of the host. Greene becomes the central figure in a battle between gods and their "tools," the assortment of non-humans they use to manipulate our world. Greene also realizes that Israel is not just a supernatural detective.

When I reached the end of the book, I was very upset when I realized that there will be a sequel, but Rice was kind enough not to end the novel too abruptly. This is a great original book for fans of the paranormal who are sick of hauntings, and other boring ghost stories.
This novel takes place in Detroit and surrounding areas, but not the city some of us know. No, this is a world where ghosts are real and acknowledged as such; a world where two clumsy "magicians" performed a ritual which sucked them both into the Void and opened a portal to The Other Side. Now ghosts are just as commonplace as, say, automobiles and coffee; and what is worse, no one (almost no one) seems to remember that the world was once any other way. Imagine a reality in which businessmen consult the dead for planning advice!

An exciting, even riveting, novel, The Ghost Toucher had me turning pages as fast as my for PC would go. The humour AND the drama appear unexpectedly, catching the reader up with a "!" and then a satisfied sigh of recognition. I'm already eager to read more from author Gerald Rice, who proves to have that special touch. Whether I was laughing aloud or gasping in awe, I enjoyed every moment I spent with this novel and I am adding it to my list of must re-reads. This is truly a book I couldn't stop-while I was reading- nothing else distracted me, a rare event. I forgot where I was and what I was doing, I was so absorbed in the story. Each character is simply great, a treasure in herself or himself, alive or not' and the plot twists ripple throughout the story. Every moment spent with this book is a gem.
I have just purchased The Ghost Toucher and I can't wait to read it. I have read the short story collection by Gerald Rice, titled Goner. If you're a fan of grab you where you sit horror, then anything Rice has written is for you.
This book brings you from one person to the other, and from one situation to the other way too quickly and briefly. I was jumping around so much that I couldn't keep most of the characters straight and many times I couldn't tell the good guys from the bad ones.
This author kept inventing new characters at will and jumping in full force with them, actually I should say that he would jump in full force and then drop them until a later time (sometimes) after we'd all but forgotten about that character's traits and personal story. I continued reading my kindle version up to 75% and then I just had to give up as I had lost total interest.
