First, the writing in this book is five stars all the way. I doubt there are many authors out there who can write as well as Christine Feehan. The reason I gave the book 3 stars is because I couldn't say I liked the book. I found it to be very disturbing. It's very much Reaper's story, which is the tale of a man getting past horrific childhood abuse. You read about the abuse in detail and you see him struggle with PTSD. These are serious subjects and they're treated well, although still disturbing. It's obvious that Reaper's attraction to Anya is what makes him want to get past the scars of his abuse and because of that she takes the brunt of his attempts, which can be emotionally and physically violent. The thing that worries me about this series is that there are 16 other people in the club who all suffered the same trauma as children. Does that mean every book will be an exploration on how adults cope with a history of child sexual abuse? If that's the case, I honestly can't read more than one book and this would be the end of my venture into this series. We'll need to see what Christine does.

Judgment Road Torpedo Ink Book 1 edition by Christine Feehan Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

I hate to say that I'm gonna have remove CF from my favorite author list. In short, not caring for the constant graphic storyline of sexual brutality against children which seems to be a common thread in her books. Also, I love a red hot sex scene at times, but lately she seems to be writing hardcore graphic pornography that gets to be boring and a bit of a turn off if there are too many. And near rape and brutality against the heroine is not sexy. I like story with my sex scenes and don't want to read a step by step, how to manual unless I choose to. The constant somewhat distasteful descriptive sex scenes took a little from the story, although the premise had good intentions. This was a fail for me, and I'll just stick to her earlier works. I said this before, but I'm gonna have to stick to it.(*sigh*)
I was enjoying the book although a little confused because it was stated in other books that all of the torpedo ink boys had "special" talents and they never showed in this book(other then what I assume was telepathy) when the whole mind rape thing happened and I almost put the book down. It was uncalled for there was not a decent build up that proved it was needed. Then a day later she just forgives him for allowing her to be tortured like that. It doesn't happen that way I've protested Mrs Feehan for her unrealistic views on how a woman would respond to something like that. Even if they wanted to continue the story it would have taken a whole hell of a lot more then that to regain trust and love. It wouldn't have harmed the story to have a few days and even maybe some distance. Not to mention Blythe would have never just let it go. Sometimes she knows how to balance the darkness and dominance with light and understanding and sometimes she doesn't taking it too far this was one of the later. Which is a real bummer because I loved the Drake sisters and sea haven(well not Blythes. Ok because I don't really consider that a sea have it was a start of a darkness slide). I would suggest she talk to some women and men who have survived a "traumatic" event or a "alpha" male. I'm also not real fond of the romanticizing of biker gangs. Bummer though. I was looking forward to this series.
I've been on the hunt for a great MC series and book for a while.
Reading the blurb I was super pumped to give this one a spin. I was devastatingly disappointed.
I wanted to like both Anya and Reaper so much but couldn't.
*SPOILER ALERT*
Reaper experienced unthinkable abuse as a child, and carried that with him into adulthood. My soul ached for him and longed for redeeming qualities but there weren't many to be found other than he's loyal and fights for what he believes in. There is a HUGE difference between being a dominant male and being an abusive, controlling prick. He was much more the latter. He called the shots on how long their 'relationship' would last, he left bruises and thought they were sexy, controlled every sexual encounter even using force.
And Anya loved it. She constantly referred to herself as a strong woman, but she had his fingerprints tattooed on top of her bruises at his request. She allowed him to speak to her and forcibly take her in any manner he chose.
They never once had protected sex, even though it was mentioned, by her, they should. She was made to toe the line of everyone of his hard no's but he didn't respect hers.
There were so many scenes that contributed to my utter dislike of the characters and the book in general.
-The MC thought Anya might be a plant so they brought her in for questioning. Reaper restrained her while another brother tortured her to get the truth from her. She forgave them.
-Reaper woke up to sexually and physically assaulting Anya. Instead of maybe deciding to step back and concentrate on trying to heal herself then maybe his deeper wounds, she was concerned about him and even went as far as sleeping on his shoulder right after it occurred. She was so battered the MC president wouldn't let her work so they wouldn't be portraying the 'wrong image' at a biker bar.
-Reaper decides it might be a good idea to find another woman to help him overcome his sexual demons so he doesn't hurt Anya again, and even goes so far as meeting this woman, in his room, at the compound.
-Anya walks in on this encounter, and, even though Reaper wasn't actually going to go through with it, she decided to leave based on what she saw. Every single club member stood in her way because they were 'family' and if she was hurting 'they all were hurting'. She allowed herself to be manipulated by them into hearing Reaper out then she had another sexual encounter with him within hours.
There were inconsistencies throughout with the club. There appeared to be supernatural abilities held by each member, on missions if appeared they were able to communicate telepathically, but they were all constantly in communication via text?
None of this was ever described or explained. Just 'talents s/he learned at the school.'
I was provided an ARC of this book by netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Lately Christine Feehan seem to have become fixated on sex, particularly oral sex, to the detriment of her plots and characters. I loved Feehan’s earlier books. I first started reading her Dark series and went on to the Ghostwalker, Leopard, Drake, Sisters of the Heart and Shadow series.

I was really looking forward to this series, the idea that is the basis for it is intriguing but I was very disappointed in the execution. The book was okay but could have been outstanding if she had put in the effort she use to put into her work.

I hope she does not start relying on sex to sell her books. I would hate it if the other series I have been enjoying for so long get so mediocre I quit reading them.
